The essentials

Wash day

Detangle dry, from the ends upward

Sulphate-free shampoo, worked downward

Condition mid-length to ends — never the wefts

Leave conditioner 10–15 minutes

Rinse cool to seal the cuticle

Squeeze dry with microfibre, never rub

Nights and storage

Silk or satin every night, without exception

A loose braid or twist for longer lengths

Store clean and dry on a wig head between installs

Never store damp, never store folded

Heat

Air dry whenever you can

Protectant is not optional

One slow pass at low heat beats three fast ones

Diffuse on cool to preserve the pattern

Lace

Always use adhesive remover — never pull it dry

Keep oil-based products away from the base

Cleanse the hairline regularly to stop build-up

Leave a margin when cutting; never trim to the knots
